On 15th February 1930 died Giulio Douhet (born on 30th May 1869). He was an Italian general officer and one of the most famous aerial theoretician from the interwar period. Douhet demanded focusing on bombing aviation which in his opinion was supposed to win out the war.

On 13th February 1945 British and American air forces began raids on Dresden. It ruined almost the whole city and killed about 25 000 people. The data comes from special commission appointed by Sachsen authorities in order to establish exact number of casualties. The commission finished its activities in 2011.

Today in aviation history – 12th February

On 12th February 1935 an American airship USS „Macon” (ZRS-5) sank. It was 239 meters long helium airship. On the way back to Sunnyvale, California in consequence of a storm a coating of the airship was damaged. The lack of helium caused sinking. 2 persons out of 76 people crew died.

Today in aviation history – 10th February

On 10th February 1985 Polish Aerial Fleet started a mission in Ethiopia. It was a contingent that operated within UN’s humanitarian mission and Ethiopia’s government. The main goal was to bring help to Ethiopian community that suffered from famine. The contingent operated for 2 years until June 1987.
