Today in aviation history – 9th August

On 9th August 1945 the US dropped an atom bomb called ‘Fat Man’ on Japanese city – Nagasaki. It was the second atom bomb used during World War II. The bomb was dropped from a bomber B-29 called by its crew the Bock’s Car. The commander was pilot Charles Sweeney. The explosion killed about 74,300 people.
