Today in aviation history – 7th December

On 7th December 1941 Japanese military attacked the American base in Pearl Harbour, bringing the American-Japanese hostilities. In order to destroy airports on Oahu and American navy mooring there were conducted two raids. Japanese military used 400 of bombers, torpedo bombers and fighters. Because of the element of surprise and the power of attack Japanese military achieved a success by destroying 5 liners and 400 aircrafts at the airports. The attack on Pearl Harbour was a new way of naval hostilities where air force and aircraft carriers played crucial role.
