Today in aviation history – 8th December

On 8th December 1945 there was made a test flight of a prototype of Bell 47 helicopter. It was the first helicopter destined for civil use. In 1946-1974 there were manufactured about 5600 of those helicopters, also in Italy, Great Britain and Japan. Bell 47 was used by the American army during war with Korea under the name of H-13 Sioux. It appeared in this version in TV show calles M*A*S*H.
