Today in aviation history – 1st December

On the 1st of  December 1918 The Air Force Checkerboard became a national marking of the Polish Air Force under the regulation 38 of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. At first this marking consisted of 4 equal squares in national colours (red squares located in upper left and lower right corners). Contrasting red and white border was added in 1921. In 1993 The Air Force Checkboard changed, the colours were reversed, heraldically correct but traditionally incorrect.
