On 8th August 1929 LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin began its flight around the world. It ended on 29th August and lasted 21 days and 7 hours. LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin was a German airship that was constructed during the interwar period by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH and Friedrichshafen.

On 7th August 1919 a French pilot – Charles Godefroy flew under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in Nieport aircraft. This flight was a protest against the idea of pilots participating on foot in a parade planned on 14th August.

On 5th August 1917 was made a test flight of a German aircraft Fokker Dr. 1. It was a triplane fighter from World War I period. The aircraft was constructed by Anthony Fokker and Reinhold Platz. The total run of Fokker Dr. 1 was 320. The weaponry of this fighter consisted of machine guns.

On 3rd August 1917 lieutenant Leslie William Sutherland, serving for Australian Flying Corps, downed 3 hostile aircrafts. Sutherland fought mainly in the Middle East. He gained 8 aerial victories. Sutherland died in 1967.
