On 2nd February 1961 there was made the first flight of Soviet intercontinental ballistic missile R-16. It was 30 meters long, had 3 meter diameter and weighed 141 000 kg. The rocket was used by armed forces of the Soviet Union in 1961-1976.
On 1st February 1981 an Englishman William Dean made the first balloon ascent in Australia. He flew the distance of 7 miles over Melbourne. At the time Melbourne was the fastest developing urban centre in Australia.
On 31st January 1945 7th Air Force bombers started raids on Iwo Jima. The bombing lasted incessantly for two weeks day and night. Land battle stared on 19th February and lasted till 26th March.

On 29th January 1932 Japanese seaplanes of IJN Notoro tender attacked Chinese military nationalist in Shanghai. This was the beginning of Japanese air operations in the Shanghai Incident. Aviation actions were continued till February.
