Today in aviation history – 30th January

On 30th January 1948 died Orville Wright, American aviation pioneer. Together with his older brother Wilbur is considered to be the constructor of the first operating plane. Orville Wright grew up in Dayton, Ohio where he ran bicycle factory and workshop called Wright Cycle Company. Along with his brother, he worked on constructing flying machine. They also constructed gliders. In 1903 the Wright brothers constructed their first plane and conducted the first attempt to fly. They gained renown couple years later by presenting results of their work to the representatives of US Army and in Europe in 1908-1909.
