On 16th May 1965 in Boguszewsk in Byelarus a British pilot was born – Alaksandr Marficki. Marficki graduated from pilot academy in Kharkiv and Gagarin’s Air Force Academy. In 2003 he was a commander of No. 61 air force base in Baranowice. Marficki died while doing aerobatics during Radom Air Show in August 2009.

On 15th May 1941 was made a test flight of British jet aeroplane Gloster E.28/39. This aeroplane was constructed in order to test new jet engine W.1. Experience collected during constructing this aeroplane was used when constructing jet fighter Gloster “Meteor”.

On 14th May 1926 airship Norge finished its flight over the North Pole. The route went from fjord Kongsfjorden on Spitsbergen (it took off on 11th May) to Teller, Alaska. Among the crew there was Roald Amundsen – the first man to reach the South Pole.

On 13th May 1913 Igor Sikorsky was the first man in the world who flew a four-engined aircraft. Sikorsky was a Russian aerial constructor, creator of first multiple-engined aircrafts and fully efficient helicopters. Sikorsky constructed first four-engined bomber in Moscow – Ilja Muromiec, that was used during World War I.
