Today in aviation history – 14th October

On 14th October 1918 aerial officers and soldiers from former Polish corps in Russia demonstrated in Warsaw. They demanded independent Polish authorities and creation of aerial units in Poland. On the same day in the afternoon in sublieutenant Mieczysław Pietraszka’s apartment was formed an undercover Aviation Association.
On 14th October 1947 Charles ‘Chuck’ Yeager an American fighter ace of World War II as a first man broke the sound barrier. He managed to do this in Bell X-1. The aircraft was also called Glamourous Glennis in honour of Yeager’s wife.
