Today in aviation history – 12th July

On 12th July 1944 No. 616 fighting squadron RAF got first British fighter Gloster Meteor. On 27th July they were used in action for the forst time (seizuring V-1 aircraft). Except for destroying flying bombs Meteors were also used in attack flights. Till the end of World War II they were not used in air. The Meteor aircrafts were used also in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Equador, Egypt, France, Israel, Holland, New Zeland, Syrian Arab Republic and Sweden.
