Today in aviation history – 9th May

On 9th May 1917 a French aviation ace – René Fonck downed 6 German aircrafts in one day. According to official statistics he downed 75 hostile aircrafts (unofficially over a hundred) during World War I, which makes him the biggest aviation ace of the World War I. Fonck has never been downed, only once his aircraft was slightly damaged.
