Today in aviation history – 23rd February

On 23rd February 1917 corporal Marek Majewski was born. In 1937 he graduated from Air Force Academy in Bydgoszcz and he was assigned to the Flight Regiment 4 in Toruń. During the September Campaign he fought as a shooter in 41st surveillance escadrille. On 10th September he flew out with PZL 23B ‘Karaś’ from the airport in Zielonka with pilot officer Kardasz and corporal Oleksiński. They were supposed to land in Siennica but the plane never got there. After the war ended it was established that they were shot down by the Germans around Michałowek near Miłosna. The whole crew died.
