Number of employees continues to grow: almost 9,500 people work at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airport

Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports once again proved to be powerful job engines in 2013. Taking into account local firms, services providers, public authorities and the Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG companies, 9,478 people were employed at the two airport sites. This represents a growth rate of 2.8 percent in comparison with the previous year. The main growth in 2013 was recorded in freight handling and airport-related services. The Mitteldeutsche Holding companies themselves employed 1,047 people on 31 December 2013 and therefore maintained the previous year’s level.

Overall, 6,233 people at 131 local companies were employed at Leipzig/Halle Airport on the reporting date of 31 December 2013 (+ 2.9%). The Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG companies at Leipzig/Halle Airport maintained an almost stable level with 677 employees.

3,245 people at 120 local companies were in employment at Dresden Airport at the end of the year (+ 2.7%). The Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG companies at the Dresden site employed 370 people on 31 December 2013, which also equated to the figures from the previous year.

“The renewed growth in employment at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports underlines the economic significance of the two airports in the region. Not least thanks to the cross-state support from politicians and our shareholders, the airports act as long-term driving forces for the economic development of the region and link Central Germany to the global air transport network with high-frequency services,” says Markus Kopp, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.
