Today in aviation history – 30th December

On 30th December 1971 in Warsaw died Zbigniew Burzyński. He was one of the pioneers of a balloon sport, constructor and a pilot. He won the Gordon Bennett Cup twice and set few flight records. Burzyński was a participant of Polish campaign in 1939 (he was a commander of observation balloons company), during which he was taken prisoner in Germany and kept there until April 1945. He continued his aerostation activities in Poland after the war ended.
