Today in aviation history – 29th December

On 29th December 1939 there was made a test flight of Consolidated B-24 Liberator. It was a four-engine heavy bomber with the construction of a low-wing. The weaponry of the aircraft consisted of 10 machine guns 0.50 cal. and up to 4 t of bombs. The total production run in 1940-1945 of Consolidated B-24 Liberator was 18,500. Except bombing the Liberators were also used as a mean of transport. On board of this plane died general officer Władysław Sikorski on 4th July 1943.
