38 Bahraini Graduate Aeronautical Maintenance Engineers Join Gulf Air

Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national carrier, today welcomed 38 Bahraini engineers to a two year on-the-job training programme with the airline, in cooperation with Tamkeen. The programme offers the opportunity for the engineers, 5 of whom are women, to work under the wing of the airline’s experienced Aeronautical Maintenance Engineers across the entire range of Gulf Air’s Engineering Division.

The trainees will learn critical technical skills in a variety of specialist engineering functions over a period of 2 years, allowing them to gain valuable experience and giving them an added advantage for future employment as qualified Aeronautic Maintenance Engineers either with Gulf Air or any international airline. All the engineers joining Gulf Air under the scheme have completed an Aeronautical Engineering Programme with BAS Engineering Training Centre and gained their EASA B-License.

Welcoming the Bahraini engineers at an orientation day held at the airline’s headquarters, Gulf Air’s Director of Engineering, Mr. Jamal Hashim commented, “As Gulf Air continues to implement its restructuring strategy the airline remains committed to developing a national workforce of aviation professionals. The two-year on-the-job training programme will provide skills, practical experience and technical knowledge to the 38 engineers that will help them develop professionally in their journey towards becoming full-fledged aircraft engineers.”

Tamkeen’s Acting Vice-President, Human Capital Development, Mrs. Amal Al Kooheji commented, “We are delighted to see the graduates from the Aeronautical Engineering Programme begin their two-year on-the-job training with Gulf Air. Our national carrier’s engineering department is renowned for its technical expertise and we are confident that these trainee engineers are in the ideal environment to nurture and develop their skills so as to help them find suitable local or regional employment opportunities upon completion of their practical experience.”

This is the third group of trainee engineers to gain further, hands-on experience at Gulf Air after completing their initial theoretical training at Bahrain Airport Services under Tamkeen’s Training programmes. Completion of the training programme is necessary in order to satisfy the technical requirements for graduation as certified engineers.
