- Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a segment of Crane Co. (NYSE:CR), has announced the certification of its SmartStem® Wireless Tire Pressure system for use on Bombardier Challenger and Global Express™ series aircraft.
- SmartStem provides a significantly improved method for measuring aircraft tire pressure and managing tire maintenance. Crane’s patented technology offers operators, including pilots, the ability to check tire pressure quickly, accurately and without gas loss.
Each aircraft kit consists of high-accuracy tire pressure sensors and the Handheld Reader, which electronically reads and stores tire pressure and temperature. The sensors simply replace the existing wheel fill stems.
- Crane is currently working with aircraft manufacturers and the FAA to secure certifications that enable retrofit solutions.
- SmartStem technology is already certified for a variety existing aircraft, including Learjet 40/45 and 60, Falcon 50 and most Citation aircraft, as well as 737NG, 747-400, 777, 787 and Q-Series aircraft.
Rick Jones, Aerospace Group Senior Vice President for Crane, states, “Operators who are looking to maintain a safe aircraft and maximize tire life will quickly see the advantages to using a SmartStem system.” SmartStem is enabling operators to proactively perform preventative maintenance, schedule tire replacements when it is convenient, and avoid in-service issues related to low tire pressure.
