The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has partnered with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and select airlines, including American Airlines, to launch a voluntary expedited screening program with a select group of known travelers.
The program is currently available at participating TSA PreCheck airport locations and is now available for most international itineraries.
Experience expedited screening benefits as you ease through security without removing the following items:
- Shoes
- 3-1-1 compliant bag from carry-on
- Laptop from bag
- Light outerwear/jacket
- Belt
Who Is Eligible
You can participate in TSA expedited screening if you are a:
- U.S. citizen and an AAdvantage® program member who received an opt-in invitation
- U.S. citizen enrolled in a CBP Trusted Traveler program including Global Entry, SENTRI andNEXUS
- Canadian citizen enrolled in NEXUS
And starting in fall 2013, anyone will be able to apply for the program directly through the TSA.
How It Works
When you opt in to the program, we share certain information with the TSA Secure Flight System, including:
- Your AAdvantage program tier status and /or U.S. CBP Trusted Traveler program information
- Your passenger reservation information
As early as this summer, your online and mobile boarding pass will indicate your eligibility once the TSA reviews and approves this information. Please keep in mind that because TSA always incorporates random security measures, eligibility for expedited screening will be determined on a per-flight basis.
How Can I Become A Participant?
If you’re an AAdvantage program member:
- Go to aa.com, select My Account and log in
- Within My Account, go to the Personal Information and Password tab

- Within My Account, go to the Personal Information and Password Tab
- Add your Customs and Border Protection 9-digit PASS ID to your secure flight information

In addition to participation through the AAdvantage program or membership in a CBP program, the TSA will implement a fee-based online application process in the fall for those interested in TSA Expedited Screening.
