Today in aviation history – 18th October

On 18th October 1940 in England died Jan Borowski. He was a Polish Army lieutenant and Flying Officer in Royal Air Force. Borowski was born in May 1912. He graduated from Polish Air Force Academy in Dęblin. In 1936 he was assigned to No. 113 fighter squadron. He fought in the September Campaign and the Battle of England (he served in No. 302 fighter division).
On 18th October 1979 was made a first flight of passenger airplane McDonnell Douglas MD-80. MD-80 aircrafts were in service since 5th October 1979. This American aircraft was manufactured in 1979-1999. Total production run of this aircraft in different versions was almost 1200. They were used by many airlines in different countries.
