Today in aviation history – 12th October

On 12th October 1943 United States Army Air Forces carried out the biggest aerial attack on the Pacific Ocean during World War II. 349 aircrafts attacked Japanese airports, shipyard and supplies warehouse in Rabaul (nowadays Papua New Guinea) in New Britain. During the attack 5 aircrafts were downed. The attacks on Rabaul were being carried out till the end of war.
On 12th October 1984 was made a test flight of PZL-130 Orlik. It was a training aircraft destined for beginner and advanced pilots. The aircraft was manufactured in Warsaw-Okęcie until 2002.
