Today in aviation history – 24th July

On 24th July 1947 was made a first flight of a Soviet bomber Iljuszyn Ił-22. The construction of this aircraft was modelled on German Arado Ar-234. Ił-22 had good piloting features, unfortunately fuel units were too week and consumed too much fuel. The work on this aircraft was stopped, but it was helpful when constructing bomber Ił-28.
