Today in aviation history – 7th July

On 7th July 1915 was born sublieutenet Władysław Kołdej. He was SPL Dęblin graduate. After graduation he was assigned to No. 1 wing in Warsaw. He fought in the September Campaign as an observer of 216 bombing squad. On 7th September he took off from the airport in Stara Wieś on Łoś aircraft as a commander of sublieutenant W. Cierpiłowski, corporal K. Pysiewicz and corpowal K. Wielgoszewski. Their target was a German armoured column. The Polish bombers were attacked by 12 Bf-109. Kołdej’s aircraft was downed, the whole crew died.
