Interesting cargo services will be offered and the free trade of commodities augmented. These are just two of the purposes for the network consultations taking place in Shanghai, China. Top officials of the three most important Asian cargo hubs and Leipzig/Halle Airport discussed the current challenges of international air transport during their first mutual meeting on Monday.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) – both located in China – and Kansai International Airport (KIX) in Japan were the Asian participants of the meeting. All three have a co-operation with Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany. The latter is an important European hub specializing in around-the-clock cargo services to Europe. A future co-operation with Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO) has also been discussed.
The talks at the transport logistic China trade fair focused on making the transfer of cargo even more efficient between the partners at both ends, hence offering clients attractive routes between two of the most active logistic markets in the world. „Together, the participants of this network handle nearly 5.4 million metric tons of air cargo a year. This is a decisive market share in both regions involved,” said Markus Kopp, CEO at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, which runs Leipzig/Halle Airport. Through new routes, smooth cargo runs and convincing door-to-door solutions, the airports on both sides intend to become more attractive to customers in both domains.
„The businesses in the central German logistic region stick closely together and will thereby profit from the co-operation with the three Asian partner airports,“ said Uwe Arnold, networking manager for Netzwerk Logistik Leipzig-Halle. The organization helps with development of logistics and economy in the region.
So far the co-operations between the four airports include mutual market development of flight services and customer relations as well as the sharing of best practices in cargo operations.
The trade fair transport logistic China is said to be one of the most important venues for transport in Asia. Leipzig/Halle Airport is especially attractive to Asian carriers due to its excellent land-side traffic connections, night flight permit and the strong ties to markets and partners in the central German regions.
