On 8th May 1915 in Szczebrzeszyn was born sublieutenant Stanisław Sierpiński. In September 1939 he fought as a pilot in No. 211 bomb squadron. On 12th September he took off from airport Gnojno-Owadno in aircraft PZL P-37B Łoś with lieutenant F. Kupidłowski, corporal K. Mazur and corporal H. Koniuszewski. Their target was a German armoured column. After finishing the task the plane was downed, all members of the crew died.
