Today in aviation history – 2nd May

On 2nd May 1999 an American fighter plane F-16C Block 40 from No. 31 squadron was downed during operation Allied Force. Yugoslavian air-defense downed a plane using surface-to-air missile 9K38 ‘Igła’.
