Today in aviation history – 23rd April

On 23rd April 1918 a corporal Stepnowski was born. During the Invasion of Poland he was a shooter in No. 212 Bomber Squadron . On 4th September 1939 he took off from the airport in Kuciny near Łódź with the aircraft PZL P-37B Łoś. Along with Stepnowski the crew consisted of lieutenant K. W. Żukowski, sergeant J. Siwik and corporal W. Kramarczyk. Their task was to bomb German army between Wieluń and Rusiec. During the flight back they were attacked by 7 German fighters Bf-109 and downed near Ślazkowice. The whole crew was killed.
