1,000-Hour Raptor Pilot

Lt. Col. Mike Schaner became the first Air National Guard pilot to fly more than 1,000 hours in the F-22 Raptor during a sortie on 7 December 2013. Schaner began his career with the active duty Air Force in 1999, where he served until 2009. He then joined the 192nd Fighter Wing, the Virginia Air National Guard F-22 Associate unit at JB Langley-Eustis near Hampton. Schaner, an Air Force Weapons School graduate, currently serves as the assistant director of operations for the wing’s 149th Fighter Squadron where he oversees training requirements for the squadron’s pilots, ensuring they are trained and ready to deploy when needed.
