On 9th January 1793 Jean Pierre François Blanchard as the first man in America flew in a balloon. It took place in Philadelphia and the flight lasted for about 60 minutes. Blanchard was a French inventor and pioneer of aerostation. He was the first man in the world to carry out scientific research and observation from above the surface of the Earth. In 1789, in the presence of Stanisław August Poniatowski, Blanchard took a flight in Warsaw.
