Today in aviation history – 19th December

On 19th December 1962 occured a catastrophe of Vickers Viscount plane which belonged to PLL LOT during an attempt to landing in Okęcie Airport. The catastrophe resulted in 33 deaths – 28 passengers and 5 members of the staff. The Vickers Viscount was a British four-engine turboprop. Three of those plane were purchased in 1962 by LOT Airlines. Two of them crashed (the second plane crashed during a flight from Warsaw to Brussels in 1965, it resulted in 4 deaths of the flight staff, no passengers were on board).
