Today in aviation history – 5th December

On 5th December 1969 died Claudius Dornier, German aerial constructor and a founder of Dornier GmbH . Claudius Dornier was born in 1884. After graduating from engineering studies he worked with Ferdynand von Zeppelin and he did research on improving strength of light metals. Dornier GmbH founded that was founded in 1914, became well-known in 1920’s by production of flying boats with metal constructions such as Dornier Do J Wal and Do X. Later on Dornier manufactured other types of military and civil aircrafts. Production activities are conducted to this day under the name of FairchildDornier.
