Estonia: President Ilves visits NATO’s Steadfast Jazz exercise

„With its Exercise Steadfast Jazz 2013, NATO is demonstrating that we are ready to counter threats in any area of the alliance and in the event of any scenario,” said Toomas Hendrik Ilves, who visited one of the largest NATO exercises since the end of the Cold War in Adaži near Riga.
Steadfast Jazz 2013 is practicing the use of NATO’s NRF rapid-reaction forces in the event of a conventional large-scale military attack and the exercise includes almost all the NATO Allies and several of our partners.
The carefully planned and exhaustively prepared Steadfast Jazz 2013 is a part of NATO’s regular exercise programme. And anyone who is looking for a connection to the recent provocative Zapad 2013 military exercise is mistaken, said President Ilves.
„Next year, after the termination of the Afghanistan operation, NATO must increase its attention to the protection of the alliance’s own territory, in that it must be capable of countering contemporary threats, such as cyber attacks,” the Estonian Head of State said.
