Aer Lingus Stops Breaking Advertising Laws – Thanks To Ryanair

Ryanair, Ireland’s favourite airline, today (12 Sep) welcomed Aer Lingus’ decision to comply with EU advertising laws and include its non-optional €7 admin fee in its advertised seat sale fares, ensuring Irish consumers can now see exactly how much more expensive Aer Lingus fares really are.
Aer Lingus in Ireland had wrongly advertised fares to Britain “from €20.99” and fares to Europe “from €39.99” without including its non-optional €7 admin fee – meaning Aer Lingus’ lowest fares were actually €27.99 and €46.99. In the UK however, their advertised fare included the €7 admin fee.
Following complaints to the National Consumer Agency, Aer Lingus is now including its €7 admin fee within its €27.99 fares to Britain and €45.99 fares to Europe – which are more than double Ryanair’s €12.99 and €19.99 seat sale fares. In fact, Ryanair passengers can book a return flight to Britain or a return flight to Europe for less than the price of a single flight with Aer Lingus.

“Aer Lingus has today stopped misleading Irish consumers with its false advertising and is now including its non-optional €7 admin fee within its fares (as it does in its UK advertising) – confirming they are more than double Ryanair’s fares. Ryanair passengers can book their return flights to Britain or Europe for less than the price of a one-way Aer Lingus flight and with fares more than half the price, it’s easy to see why 9m passengers chose Ryanair last month – the same amount it takes Aer Lingus a year to carry.”
