Russian Helicopters, part of state defence holding company Oboronprom and a leading global designer and manufacturer of helicopters, announces its participation in the ninth international exhibition Gidroaviasalon-2012, taking place from 6-9 October at the Beriev testing base and Gelendzhik airport on the Black Sea in southern Russia.
The Gidroaviasalon-2012 exhibition and conference will showcase seaplanes and ship-based aviation and their potential and practical applications for carrying passengers and cargo, tourism, routine patrolling and rescue missions at sea, and for providing assistance during emergencies and environmental disasters.
Russian Helicopters will host a round table on problems and advanced applications of helicopters on ships and maritime platforms from 2pm to 6pm on 7 September in Pavilion B. Participants will be drawn from oil and gas companies, helicopter operators and United Shipbuilding Corporation.
The exhibition will open with a flight display including Russian manufactured helicopters: the world’s heaviest lift model, the Mi-26T, the ship-based Ka-27 and the light Ka-226. One of the helicopters will bear the world’s largest Russian flag – measuring 1,800 sq m in area – across the bay.
At Gidroaviasalon-2012, Russian Helicopters will display two of this year’s new models: the Mi-171A2 (the latest eagerly awaited version of the Mi-8/17 family) and the new medium multirole Ka-62. It also plans to demonstrate the Mi-8/17, Ka-32A11BC, Ka-226T and Ansat. These models may be used to support the 22nd Olympic Winter Games and 21st Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014.
During the games, Russian-made helicopters will take on important responsibilities including monitoring roads, pistes and ski-lifts at risk of avalanche, and transporting passengers, support staff, competitors and mobile rescue teams. The Ka-226T and Ansat are planned to be used on tourist routes, while the Ka-226T, Mi-8/17 and Ansat can be used for outside broadcasts of sporting events. As always, the Ka-32A11BC can be used in its traditional fire-fighting role and carry out search-and-rescue missions on land and at sea.
Russian Helicopters will brief current and potential partners on the development of its service and maintenance system, its plans to create special modifications of its helicopters, and on new technologies and developments in helicopter building. Visitors will also be treated to helicopter display flights.
On the eve of the exhibition the Mil Cup is taking place on 4-5 September along a route from Moscow to Gelendzhik. Russian and foreign-made helicopters are among the participants, with the Russian helicopter industry represented by the Mi-8AMT. Twelve teams will take part in total, flying aircraft including Mil, Robinson, Bell 407, Alouette and Gazelle.
The race will take place in four stages with a total distance of 1,500 km: Moscow to Voronezh (520km), Voronezh to Rostov-on-Don (510km), Rostov to Krasnodar (220km) and Krasnodar to Gelendzhik (250km). The finish line will be the Beriev airbase, where the Gidroaviasalon organising committee will crown the winners. Russian Helicopters is organising the competition, alongside the Helicopter Industry Association and JSC Russian Helicopter Systems.
Organisers say that 147 Russian organisations took part in the last Gidroaviasalon in 2010, alongside 30 foreign companies from 26 countries including Ukraine, the UK, Germany, India, New Zealand, Canada, Poland, the US, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, South Korea and Japan. Russian Helicopters was one of the participants, putting on an extensive programme for visitors.
