The American National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) has granted Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. an Outstanding Achievement Award for the development of „Iron Dome”.
„Iron Dome” is a counter short-range rocket system, which since its initial deployment in 2009 has intercepted over 100 rockets that have been fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel, with an extremely high rate of success, preventing numerous casualties and damages to civilians and military personnel.
The development program of “Iron Dome” was kicked off in mid-2007 and included the development of an interceptor, launch system, Battle Management Control (BMC), radar adaptations, and integration of all system components. The initial test was conducted in 2008, and a full-system test on 2009. In parallel, and prior to the development completion, manufacturing and assembly lines were built, using innovative technologies which enable production of interceptors in massive quantities.
The combination of all of these elements resulted in the successful completion of the development phase and the delivery of the first operational battery from the production line within a record time of less than three years.
Yossi Druker, Head of Rafael’s Air-to-Air and air-Defense Directorate thanked Rafael’s Iron Dome team of scientists and engineers and praised them for their outstanding achievement. „Rafael has been blessed with extraordinary people, who, together with teams from the Israeli MoD, from other Israeli industries and from the IDF, worked day and night and developed an unparalleled life-saving system,” Druker stated.
This Outstanding Achievement Award joins other commendations that Rafael has received from the US Government in the last few years, such as commendations citing its armor for successfully protecting U.S Army and U.S Marine troops in the war in Iraq, saving the lives of many American service men, as well as commendations from other governments around the world
Rafael designs, develops, manufactures and supplies a wide range of advanced defense systems. These leading edge products include naval, air and ground precision weapons, electro-optic systems, electronic warfare (EW) systems, Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) systems, acoustic defense systems, air-to-air and air defense systems, armored protection and training systems.
