Bombardier Aerospace today announced that construction work has begun for its full-scale factory-owned and operated service centre for business aircraft at Singapore’s Seletar airport. The official ground breaking ceremony was held on June 5. The state-of-the-art service facility, which is set to open in Q2 2013, features 2,930 sq. meters (31,5K sq. feet) of hangar space and 2,694 sq. meters (28,8 sq. feet) for office and back shops.
It will be capable of performing a variety of light to heavy maintenance tasks on all Bombardier Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft. The strategically located service centre will form the foundation for a full-service hub in the region that will eventually house Bombardier’s current Singapore Regional Support Office (RSO), and be closely networked with Bombardier’s RSOs in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Sydney as well as its parts depots in Singapore and Hong Kong. “Singapore is a strategic location within Asia-Pacific, with a first-class workforce, and Bombardier business aircraft customers appreciate the value of having OEM-backed services and OEM-trained staff within easy reach,” said Éric Martel, President, Bombardier Customer Services & Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace. “We look forward to providing our customers with a full range of aftermarket services from this central location, just as we are doing with our hubs in North America and Europe.” The new service centre will further strengthen Bombardier’s already substantial customer support footprint in Asia-Pacific. Bombardier currently operates five dedicated Regional Support Offices (RSOs) and parts depots in the region, serving both its business and commercial aircraft customers. As well, business jet operators also have access to a network of nine Authorized Services Facilities for maintenance, repair and overhaul services. In March, Bombardier announced plans to locate a simulator in the region for pilot and maintenance training for Global aircraft customers. Bombardier currently has an installed base of over 170 aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. The Singapore facility will bring the total number of Bombardier-owned service centres to 10 worldwide.
